We provide a safe environment with a focus on immediate, calm First Aid. The childminder holds a full 12-hour Paediatric First Aid certificate (renewed every 3 years) and require signed parental consent for treatment and emergency medical advice before care begins.
A regulated first aid kit is kept in the hallway on the blue unit, accessible to us but out of reach of children. We perform monthly maintenance checks to ensure all supplies are present and in-date.
General: We assess and treat injuries based on my training, prioritising the child's comfort.
Dental: Specific protocols are in place for mouth injuries, including water rinses and cold compresses.
Emergencies: We will call 999 immediately and then contact parents, staying with the child until help arrives.
Records: All incidents are documented immediately on an official form.
Parents: Notified on the day of any accident; head injuries prompt an immediate phone call. Parents must sign the record form upon collection.
Authorities: Serious injuries or hospitalisations are reported to Ofsted, local services, and the HSE within 14 days.
Accident logs are reviewed monthly to identify patterns. This data is used to update risk assessments and physical safety measures, ensuring continuous improvement of the setting's safety.
